About the event

With its rich string sound Vivaldi’s upbeat Concerto Grosso RV 565 is the perfect opener leading to Carl Stamitz’s Flute Concerto in G, a rarely played gem of the classic aera with elegant tunes, a heart-warming slow movement and virtuoso finale featuring fabulous flautist Michael Howell.  The Andante and Adagio of Robert FuchsSerenade 1 exude charm and intimacy before Alessandro Rolla’s Concerto for Viola with the amazing Paul Wright as soloist.  Rolla was, in his time, so exalted for his virtuosic viola skills that his playing was said to make women faint.  Carl Nielsen’s Little Suite for Strings starts in the brooding late romantic style to finish on a champagne cork popping high.  This is a program that takes you on a most beautiful journey from the first to the last note.
